"Lorenzo's dipper" by Isabelle Carrier

Summer vacations are an ideal time to encourage reading in our children, in addition to taking advantage of the many everyday situations to better teach them the world in which we live.

One of the first children's books that I bought for my private library was "Lorenzo's dipper" by Isabelle Carrier, a story that through simple words accompanied by cute and funny illustrations, we can see the difficulties, qualities and obstacles that its protagonist has to face every day.

This beautiful story is recommended by the Spanish Confederation of Organizations for People with Intellectual Disabilities (FEAPS) because it helps children to understand that each of us is different from others and that there are some people who have many difficulties to cope with every day.

"Lorenzo's dipper" tells us the story of a little boy named Lorenzo who always carries a red dipper with him. This saucepan, at the beginning, only gives you headaches, as it makes it more difficult every day. But thanks to the help of some people who are on their way, they learn to find positive aspects of life where before they only saw negative aspects.

As with "For four corners of nothing", I cannot compare Lorenzo with the children with whom I share a multitude of experiences. It seems to me that the author has found a precious way to make people see that she has some kind of difficulty they don't have to see her as a hindrance or a nuisance.

We are not going to deny that on many occasions it may not facilitate things by wanting to lead a "normal" life, but it is much better for both children and their families who do not see it as a continuous fight, but instead look for the creative way of dealing with situations.

It happens many times that the world alien to this type of children who have some kind of difficulty only see, as we are told in this story, the red saucepan, leading in most cases to create misconceptions. We must not see what it cannot achieve, but what it is capable of doing.

For all this, I recommend that if you have occasion you read "Lorenzo's dipper" by Isabelle Carrier, a story that will steal a smile and make the little ones understand that you should not let anything prevent you from doing what you want to do. If the pot does not leave you, use it to reach your goal.
