The CE-E robot and toy safety, a successful campaign?

We are at the time of the year when more toys are bought, and also when more attentive we have to be to the characteristics of those articles so that they are safe and suitable for children.

As part of the European campaign "Safety in toys", the Directorate General of Enterprise and Industry of the European Commission launched a video that informs consumers how to choose safe toys and how to use them safely. But is it a suitable video?

The video shows a robot that sings, called CE-E, which aims to raise children's awareness about safety with regard to toys, reminding us to hit music (yes, it seems that it hits our ears) that toys have to carry the guarantee "EC".

Apart from the metallic voice, quite strident, of the robot, and that without the subtitles we would not understand even half of the message, we found a bit strange scenes taking into account the children's audience to which, in theory, it is addressed. Like the one in which he shows us a Barbie doll and the robot tells us that he is his girlfriend, presuming her, "What is good?".

In my opinion only with this scene is shown a sexist attitude not only for the words of the robot but for the doll that appears as a simple vase ornament next to the protagonist. I don't know, maybe you think I'm looking for the cat's three feet, but if it's a video that pretends to educate children it doesn't seem appropriate.

The campaign has other materials starring the CE-E robot, such as comics, but in this case they are not published in Spanish. Maybe that way the robot does send a more appropriate message.

But not even for the elderly the video of the CE-E robot on toy safety it seems to me indicated, without the subtitles we would get lost and the futuristic and electronic invoice of the images and sounds does not help to send the message ... Anyway, we remind you without stride that you have to look for the "CE" mark on toys, for which The manufacturer certifies that the article meets the safety requirements of the European Union.
