Everything will be alright? The most common fears of the pregnant woman

Pregnancy is a stage that can proceed without complications, which does not mean that we do not have our own internal complications, in the sense that we are going to worry to a greater or lesser extent, for one reason or another. Especially if we are going to be new mothers, the fears spread and there are some common issues that most concern the pregnant woman.

We have often talked about the most common fears experienced by pregnant women and this time it was the Federation of Midwifery Associations of Spain (FAME) that has set out to establish the ranking on this issue.

He has done it through the report "Women's fears during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum", which shows something we already assumed: that the greatest fear that mothers have during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum is that the baby has health problems, although it is observed that this fear descends in the postpartum, once already We have it with us.

In pregnancy, mothers have rated higher the fear of losing the baby and that the delivery is complicated, something that we have all gone through or are going to go through (I don't know any woman who has gone or is going to go totally calm to her birth!). And, in the face of the unknown, before such a crucial moment, doubts and fears always arise.

Specifically, the concern for childbirth is increasing as the months go by and the second and third trimesters are reached, approaching the key moment. The best way to get to childbirth is to make it well informed, and that fear can paralyze us.

Other of the fears of the pregnant women, with a lower score than the previous ones, are the fears that they will perform the tests well, the economic and labor situation, the pain of the contractions, not knowing how to identify the needs of the baby and the doubts about how face the needs of the newborn.

On a lower scale (four out of ten), women are least worried about feeling alone, changes in the relationship with the couple, not having help from healthcare professionals during the first few days, dealing with respect or changing in his physical appearance.

The results have been obtained from a survey of a total of 808 mothers in Spain between 25 and 45 years of age who have assessed the different fears in the three stages from zero to ten. We would have loved to access the document, but it is not available, the data were presented a few days ago at a press conference.

In any case, my experience matches the most common fears of the pregnant, I have been able to experience all the exposed fears to a greater or lesser extent although, as in the results, the greatest fear was the health of the baby and the time of delivery when it approached. Now it would be good to know what are the fears of parents and how they differ from ours, because surely the results were going to be curious ...
