Fundación Mutua Madrileña and Fundación ANAR (Help to Children and Adolescents of Risk) have created a great campaign against bullying, a form of violence that terrifies parents and causes terrible consequences for children who suffer from it.
Under the motto "Stop bullying begins with you", traditional messages are turned to approach the problem from the perspective of those who witness bullying. It aims to raise awareness among children and adolescents about the attitude they adopt as witnesses of bullying and make them see that laughing and shutting up turns them into accomplices.
Neither silence nor laughter before the bullying
The campaign focuses on two attitudes as harmful as the harassment itself. Shut up when witnessing abuse or laughing with support to those who do bullying. As parents, it is very important that we educate our children in respect and non-violence to prevent bullying situations, but also talk with them about what to do if, by chance or not, they witness a situation of abuse in school.
Children are often afraid to report harassment, mainly because of fear of retaliation and then become a victim themselves. Out of fear, many prefer to shut up.
But I think it is essential that as a society we begin to change things since our children are young. Than we educate them to be brave in the face of injustices.
We all want children who, in a situation of bullying, come out in defense of the victim instead of laughing or shutting up, two attitudes that reinforce the stalker.
Fundación ANAR and Fundación Mutua Madrileña have launched a comprehensive awareness program that consists of a prevention program against bullying in classrooms through talks, studies that highlight the reality of this problem and a communication campaign to involve and get commitment from young people.
