It is increasingly common to read stories of multiple pregnancies that are surprising. The increase in these is mainly because now many couples who had difficulty conceiving, choose to carry out fertility treatments, which often results in pregnancies of twins, triplets or even quadruplets.
But childbirth, or rather, the births of a woman pregnant with triplets have left us truly shocked at all. She has given birth to a child, and seven days later, to a pair of twins. The reason? Their contractions stopped after the first baby was born.
A Chinese woman named Chen who was pregnant with triplets gave birth twice in the same week. She and her husband, married since 2012, had trouble conceiving naturally. With the help of a fertility treatment, Chen managed to get pregnant in August 2016 of triplets.
When she turned 30, Chen went into labor, so she was immediately taken to the hospital. There she gave birth to her first baby, a child, on February 21. But just after the boy was born, his contractions stopped.
The gynecologist recommended that it was best to wait until you resumed alone and the other two babies continue in your womb, so she stayed in the hospital.
Seven days later, on February 28, Chen gave birth to a pair of twins naturally.
How has this been possible?
One might think it is dangerous. I think if I was in the mother's place I would worry about leaving the twins inside when her brother was already born.
But the doctor who attended Chen explains that this particular situation was about a dizygotic pregnancy. This means that the babies were conceived in two separate membranes: in one they were the twins and in another apart, the child.
For this reason babies were born several days apart, but still this amazing story amazes us.
