The La Encarnación Children's Center in New York, belonging to Catholic Charity and specialized in treating minors victims of HIV, they used orphaned babies up to three months to experiment with drugs against the AIDS virus.
These studies involve the GlaxoSmithKline pharmaceutical industry in a minimum of four experiments since 1995, and mostly sponsored by federal agencies such as the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
The New York Department of Health studies the reports of more than 100 children that were used in 36 experiments. Black children, Latinos, infected with HIV or born to mothers with AIDS, are the victims of these trials. The experiments consisted of checking the toxicity of AIDS drugs, for example, four months old babies were given a cocktail with high doses of seven drugs. This is inhuman, and they have the courage to say that “The consent for the experiments was granted by a panel of doctors and lawyers who decided whether or not it was advantageous to allow the child to receive the drugs in exchange for compensation of the risks (although it was confusing what 'advantages' the baby would receive) ”.
These studies of the La Encarnación Children's Center, are part of a wider experimentation, which affirm that it was carried out in at least seven states. Some of the children died during the experiments, but government officials argue that they have not found any evidence that the deaths were caused by the trials.
