Being a child in Haiti is practically a death sentence

It is very sad to see the problems that children have in many underdeveloped countries, although sadder is to see that there are few efforts made to avoid their ills and misfortunes.

According to a story, children born in Haiti are more likely to die during childhood than those of any other country in the Western Hemisphere. Although they should also be added to this news, children living in Ethiopia, Sudan or many other countries on the planet.

In Haiti, 2% of children from all of Latin America and the Caribbean are born, the country's birth rate is quite low, but it must be added that 19% of children under 5 die. No doubt the numbers show the precarious situation of the children, they do not have basic services or drinking water in many areas of the country. If we add to this the ill-treatment suffered by children, political problems or the great violence unleashed in their streets, which has no contemplations with anyone, it is not surprising that being a child in Haiti is practically a death sentence. A personal opinion, although there are laudable initiatives and efforts by a few to change this situation, will be of little use if there is no greater commitment, both from the affected countries and from the rest of developed countries.

It's funny to think that the media or governments remember the situation of underdeveloped countries when certain times like Christmas arrive, then they forget. Although the theme of our blog includes pregnancy, childbirth, childhood, etc., focused most of the writings towards Western culture, we do not want to make the same mistake and try to claim a little more help to the whole set of Children who are homeless in these countries. We must pay a little more attention.
