Mailbox to abandon babies, now it's Japan's turn

The controversial phenomenon of Baby box, a modern version of the old “lathes” where to abandon unwanted babies, it is spreading through various countries of the world.

Just as it was implemented in countries such as Belgium, Germany, Italy, Austria, Hungary, South Africa, Switzerland, Slovakia and very recently we knew that they would also be installed in India, now the turn of Japan where a booth prepared to leave babies at the Kumamoto hospital in the southwest of the country will begin operating this month.

Japanese call the cradle of the stork, it has the form of an incubator with a constant temperature of 36 degrees which is accessed by a door from outside the hospital.

When leaving the baby, the mother can pick up a letter explaining how to contact the hospital if she changes her mind and decides to pick up her child again.

It is a sad reality, but a reality that must be assumed for the sake of unwanted babies who are abandoned to their fate every day on the streets. If someone finds them on time, they survive; but, they are destined to die. It sounds hard but unfortunately it is so.

Therefore, although this plague of mailboxes to abandon babies can generate a lot of criticism because according to some it encourages abandonment, there are many lives that have been saved thanks to this system.

As I have ever said, I believe that someone who makes the tremendous decision to leave a child will do it anywhere. At least they are given the option of doing it in a safe place for the baby giving him the possibility of living.
