"Games, toys and disabilities", free guide on toys for children with disabilities

The game is very necessary for the development of all children, including those who have some type of visual, auditory, motor and intellectual disability.

But unfortunately sometimes toys are not available to everyone, because they are not properly designed.

For the first time, the Toy Industry Research Association (AIJU), known as the Toy Technology Institute, has edited the guide "Games, toys and disability" aimed at both toy manufacturers, educators and families with disabled children.

According to the guide that can be downloaded for free, only one fifth of the analyzed toys are suitable for children with motor disabilities, only 27% are for children with visual disabilities and 69% for children with hearing impairment.

After studying it, the sad conclusion has been reached that only 5% of the analyzed toys meet the Design for All requirement, which implies that they are suitable for people with all three types of disabilities.

It also includes a special section for children with intellectual disabilities.

There is hope that this type of work will begin to close the gap that discriminates against children with disabilities in something as basic in childhood as toys.
