UNICEF asks for greater family reconciliation

The Unicef Spanish Committee has urged the Government to improve work and family conciliation policies as it considers that there is little progress in this regard and that these have not been designed taking into account The interests and needs of children.

The petition comes as a result of the 2008 Childhood Survey in Spain, conducted by the SM Foundation, which indicates that 920,000 children between 6 and 14 say they feel alone and that 350,000, which is said soon, do not find anyone at home when They come back from school. We talked about this study in Babies and more a few days ago.

Unicef argues that this situation stems from the lack of sufficient work and family reconciliation measures and the economic demands that in many cases oblige both parents to work. In the words of Gabriel González, responsible for Children's Rights "It doesn't seem reasonable for a child to spend ten hours in daycare", because although we know that it is attended and fed, A child needs love.

Honestly, I can't agree more with this UNICEF request. The few measures of work and family reconciliation that we have seen so far have more "work" than "family", extending the hours of nurseries or places without changing the work hours of workers. In short, thinking that work and production do not suffer and causing them to suffer those who deserve less, the children.
