They study expanding aid for having children

The first aid that arrived was 100 euros per month for working mothers. Then came the 2,500 euros in a single payment, by birth or adoption, also called baby check. Now they want to send us 1,000 euros more per year for each child under three years old.

This is the intention of the Congress of Deputies. About 10 days ago the parties voted almost unanimously (voted against IU and ERC) in favor of a CiU bill to increase current family aid.

"What we want is not to end the social inequalities of this country, but to support families with children", commented Carles Campuzano, deputy of CiU. The current aid for dependent children is 500 euros (there are autonomies in which it is somewhat higher) annually until three years of age. From that age, if the family income does not exceed 11,000 euros per year - 16,555 in large families - the aid continues to be received at a rate of 291 euros each year until the child reaches the age of majority.

This proposal intends that all families can benefit from 1,000 euros per year, Whatever your income level. The 291 euros mentioned above would increase to 600 euros until 18 years.

The objective of the initiative is to improve the economy of families with children a little and promote an increase in birth rates. In Spain this year it has been 1.39 children per fertile woman, the highest figure since 1990, but quite low if we compare ourselves with countries around us such as France, with 2 children per woman, or Ireland, with 1.9.

At the moment the proposal is on the table and, as the headline says, they are studying it. These grants, extended to the entire population, mean 6,500 million euros annual to the State. The PSOE has pronounced in this regard supporting the need for greater family aid, but questioning the amount because it seems difficult to assume.

Hopefully the measure will go ahead, and if not this, anyone who supposes a benefit to parents and, above all, to children. Either an economic aid, or a social aid (a maternity leave, for example).
