Ten tips for the pregnant woman in summer

In the summer months, excessive heat usually causes tiredness and reluctance in the pregnant woman, especially in the last trimester of pregnancy when the weight of the gut is accentuated.

To prevent this from happening and face the summer season with energy and vitality, there are some recommendations that you can follow and that I have gathered in ten tips for the pregnant woman in summer.

1) An energizing breakfast

To start the day well, a full breakfast is essential. Must include cereals, dairy and fresh seasonal fruit. Reinforcing the first meal of the day is a good measure to combat fatigue throughout the day.

2) Hydrate

Drinking a lot of fluid is essential to hydrate the body and prevent fluid retention in the body. Contrary to popular belief, drinking frequently, even before feeling thirsty, favors the elimination of toxins from the body and prevents edema, as well as relieving heat. It is recommended to consume at least two liters of water daily.

3) Practice moderate exercise

Exercise is very important for staying fit and for energy. Walking, yoga and above all, swimming, are ideal practices at this time of year. Take advantage of the cold water in the pool to relieve tired legs and exercise in the water.

4) Rest

We have said on several occasions that rest should be a priority in the life of the pregnant woman. The heat accentuates the feeling of fatigue, so it is time to relax, pamper and take care of yourself, because it depends on the health of our baby. Sleep while you can, put your legs up and spend a few minutes each day relaxing and meditating.

5) Avoid copious meals

The heat causes the appetite to decrease and the frugal menus to be more appealing. Opt for foods that are easy to digest and of high nutritional and energy value. Avoid eating too much at night to facilitate rest. As the saying goes "eat breakfast like a queen, eat like a princess and have dinner like a beggar."

6) Eat fruit

Fresh fruit is a great ally in the pregnant woman's diet. In addition to being refreshing and moisturizing due to its high water content, fruits provide essential vitamins and minerals. Most seasonal fruits such as cherries, strawberries, peach, melon, watermelon, etc. They remove thirst and replenish mineral salts that the body eliminates through sweat. The vitamin C intake of fruits contributes to a better absorption of iron from food and being rich in fiber helps fight constipation in pregnancy.

You can consume the whole pieces or consume them in salads, milkshakes, gazpachos, ice cream, slushies or juices.

7) Wear light clothes

During the whole pregnancy you have to wear comfortable clothes and appropriate shoes, but in the summer you have to take this precaution even further. You should wear fresh clothing, made of natural fabrics, that does not adhere to the body and shoes that are neither too low nor too high to avoid back and leg pain.

8) Cool off

The sensation of heat increases during pregnancy, and more in summer, so the pool, soda, ice cream, air conditioning, massages with cold gels ... any option is good to lower body temperature.

9) Take care of your skin

During pregnancy hormonal changes also cause changes in the skin predisposing it to greater sensitivity and to appear dark spots, especially on the face and neck. You should not forget the skin care, moisturize daily, avoid exposure to the sun at central times of the day and apply appropriate sunscreen to your skin type, even if you are in the shade.

10) Let yourself be pampered

This is advised throughout the year, but summer is an ideal time to relax with the couple, enjoy mutual company and plan new life with the baby.
