Some parents get the same tattoo in honor of their daughter with autism

For some parents, receiving a child's autism diagnosis is the beginning of a difficult path, but at the same time with great teachings. Because a son with autism comes to teach that the world can be otherwise as we see it.

Christopher Reyes and Elisa Durán they decided to get the same tattoo after their daughter's autism diagnosis, and to do so they chose a drawing by Mexican writer and illustrator Bernardo Fernandez (Bef). It was he who shared the story on Twitter going viral.

Today I received the highest honor that a cartoonist can have. A marriage, parents of a girl with autism, tattooed a drawing of mine. I have no words, I am moved to the core. Thanks, Elisa. Thank you. pic.twitter.com/GGXDtc7LnQ

There are many parents who decide to tattoo their skin as a symbol of love for their children born with this condition, a neurological disorder that is part of the group of disorders called ASD (autism spectrum disorders) and that affects the ability to communicate and interact with others.

The couple tattooed the drawing accompanied by a legend that appears in the graphic novel of the artist about autism entitled 'Speak Mary':

"My daughter's little head, that complex universe, is a mystery to me"

The story is even more moving because the cartoonist's daughter was also diagnosed with autism, and for this reason she decided to write the novel based on her personal experience as a father.

Thanks to all the people who made this tweet viral and to Elisa and Carlos for honoring me by tattooing my drawing. For those who have asked, "Habla María" can be obtained in all bookstores and on the @OceanoMexico page (there is a digital version). //t.co/Wg0diG6QqK

In an interview with El Diario.es the writer confesses:

"It was not easy, because exposing this puts you in a very vulnerable situation, but sharing it helped me heal and understand that it was necessary to make it appear that people like Mary need inclusion in our world, which is also theirs."

The colors, symbol of autism

Wearing a tattoo on the skin is a beautiful way to visualize autism, a disorder often misunderstood, and that requires greater knowledge on the part of everyone to achieve a true integration of people, and especially children with autism .

The symbol that represents autism are the pieces of a brightly colored puzzle as a symbol of the complex and the mysterious nature of the disorder. Also the representation of many colors, as a symbol of the diversity of people who present this condition and highlighting that there are as many levels of autism as shades of colors in a rainbow.
