Brain plasticity and Early Attention

We have already commented that early care is the set of interventions for children from 0 to 6 years (together with the family and their environment) with disorders in their normal development or at risk of suffering them.

By having a context full of many stimuli, it is possible to intervene in the acquisition of those altered functions during their normal development. Thus, brain plasticity in Early Care, is the cornerstone in this type of early treatment, especially during the first months of the baby's life.

The main base is take advantage of the structures of the central nervous system that still retain their functionality. In this way, receiving stimuli and sending responses to them reinforce and / or generate new neural circuits that make the acquisition of functions not so difficult. For example: if, due to a blow to the head, a child is damaged in the area of the brain responsible for language, with proper stimulation and appropriate treatment, other healthy areas of the brain can perform this function (although initially it is not their function).

Early brain lesions (for example, in childhood aphasia) or not having adequate environmental stimulation, can seriously affect proper neuronal and psychological maturation; Therefore, taking advantage of brain plasticity is vital to enhance proper subsequent development.

This ability to generate new experiences is much greater in early stages of development, since it is easier to increase the number of interconnections between neurons, in response to stimulus-rich environments.

However, we must bear in mind that this plasticity is not infinite; exists a critical stage in which this characteristic of the brain and neurons begins to weaken and it is no longer so easy to establish nerve connections.

Early care programs are based, on the one hand, on the early intervention, and on the other, in the early detection of disorders or difficulties that may result in a pathology of subsequent neurodevelopment.

The effectiveness of early intervention in children with developmental problems (whether motor, linguistic, cognitive ...) is quite large, so Early detection and early treatment are vital for neuronal plasticity to fulfill its function..
