Pregnancy, breastfeeding and work

A news has appeared recently that I think is interesting to comment with our readers, because, although it refers exclusively to Navarra, I am sure that it is an issue that for recent moms and their partners becomes a real concern and rarely addressed by the business world : pregnancy and breastfeeding at work.

The study, conducted by the Department of Occupational Health of the UGT has warned that 33 percent of risk assessments carried out by Navarre companies do not contemplate the specific risks related to the protection of pregnant workers and that 81 percent It does not do so when it comes to breastfeeding.

This indicates, according to the study authors, that many companies hinder women from having risk benefits during pregnancy or breastfeeding and are not willing to make changes to the jobs that would be advised if they had been considered in the occupational health plans.

They also point out that although there is some improvement and the number of companies that have an action protocol has increased for when a worker communicates her pregnancy, they are still only 30 percent of them and this type of documentation would greatly help the woman find facilities to relocate it in the company or to deliver the documents that make it a recipient of the benefit if necessary if there are no compatible positions in the same company.

In Navarra, Women continue to have problems in their jobs due to pregnancy and lactation, because they fear losing their job or have problems to exercise their rights due to obstacles that are put from the same company, a situation that, as I said at the beginning of the post, I fear that it can be generalized throughout Spain.
