Argentina could run out of diapers

Argentines may be buying more washable diapers, changing brands or looking for other solutions for baby hygiene. Argentina could run out of diapers these days due to the new and restrictive regulations on imports.

A new import scheme makes it difficult for the main manufacturer to have the necessary materials. The Procter firm, which manufactures 40% of the diapers sold in the country, could stop delivering them normally due to lack of stock.

The company would have already stopped meeting the daily production quotas that it has planned because they lack the material that goes inside the diaper and that is not manufactured in the country. Add to this problems with a cloth for diapers used by Procter and its main competitor, Kimberly Clark.

It seems that a delay in the new import acceptance system is the cause of this failure, although government officials, aware of the impact that this measure may have on economic activity, has committed to give priority to the firms that purchase of the outside.

The restrictions make many manufacturers in the country accuse the delay in the supply of raw materials. Diapers are not the only ones affected, and household appliances and a part of the car industry are also "in danger."

The truth is that today disposable diapers are an essential product for many families, although I imagine that if there is finally shortage of diapers in Argentina the ingenuity and especially the other options, the washable diapers, which did not exist a few years ago (or at least not with the same quality) take over.
