Rincón de Soto pears are a healthy food for children because of their taste, size and sweetness

When I was a child I once went, very early to avoid the heat of the summer morning, to catch pears with family and friends. So they were not of the Denomination of Origin of Rincon de Soto although the pears were already like those of today and share with them the intense flavor and sweetness, the juicy texture, the consistency and a generous size that made them very easy to take from the tree and eat them later with the hand.

And, although we were not in a professional plan, the children who accompanied the elderly had a great time collaborating to fill the fruit cubes and then to fill the tractor trailer. Pears grew, and they still do, in the fertile Riojan lands bathed by the Ebro, Cidacos and Alhama rivers in the towns of Rincón de Soto, Alfaro, Calahorra and Aldeanueva de Ebro. This special environment ensures an adequate climate for the development of this fruit. Of course it is the good work of expert professional farmers and their knowledge that makes this fruit grow in the area since the 18th century. It is also told by our colleagues from Direct to Palate with a video of the most instructive.

As you can read on their website the Pears of Rincón de Soto have a consistency superior to those grown in other areas of Spain, which favors a higher concentration of sugar in the fruit. Thus, along with its flavor, the pear offers a juicy meat without granites.

They also have a large size and a roughness in their skin called russeting and that is a natural oxidation Highly valued in this fruit. Apparently it occurs due to the mists of the area where they are grown probably originated in the rivers mentioned.

The pear has remarkable nutritional properties, thus providing a large amount of water and fiber and few calories, so nutrition experts recommend it in weight loss diets.

And above all, as you can see in the video, they stand out for their vitamin content, in which it is necessary to point out vitamin B1, essential to promote metabolism, nervous system and mental activity. Also B2, important in the growth stage, and C, which helps the formation of collagen, stimulates defenses and helps absorb intestinal iron.

Other characteristics of the fruit are that it contains beta-carotene, recommended to protect the skin, eyesight and that increases the defenses. And potassium, which regulates the water balance in the body and promotes muscle functioning. It is also rich in calcium and phosphorus, essential for bones. It has magnesium, which helps prevent hypertension and cardiac arrhythmias and iron, which prevents anemias.

At home we buy them frequently and the little girl loves to eat them in her hand and savor them. They usually release a lot of water so children get lost although they love their taste, you can even eat with skin. And although they have spent a few years the children still want them.
