Peugeot 5008. Family cars for analysis

In Babies and more We have spoken on occasion of cars because something that many couples usually do when they are parents is to change the car for a larger one (and if they do not, they would like to do it).

It is logical, as it is commonly said: “the worst thing about leaving home with a baby is that you have to take everything” and that is why it is usual to see families riding in large cars, usually minivans.

We have thought that in addition to analyzing toys and items for babies, it could also be interesting to talk about cars, although without talking about engines, speeds or accelerations, but staying in what parents are most worried about: space, safety, comfort and modularity.

To start we have selected one of the youngest minivans, since it dates from the end of 2009, but with a really good look: Peugeot 5008.

We will talk about it in depth and in a couple of hours you can also watch a video about the car.

Modularity of the Peugeot 5008

Fantastic. At least I liked it a lot although I confess that I come with a biased opinion, because I have a Peugeot 307 SW with a very similar concept in terms of modularity and operation of the second row of seats.

The Peugeot 5008 comes standard with 3 rows of seats (2-3-2), with a total of 7 seats. The two rear are hidden in the trunk and removal is extremely easy. Upholstered folding platforms are separated, the seats are raised with one hand and the platforms are folded behind the seats as a floor.

These rear seats are designed to go two children or two adults of short stature (I measure 1.67 and the knees touch me with the middle seats), although the middle seats can slide forward to leave more space to the legs.

With respect to the seats of the central row, the three are independent, being able to fold any of the three. They also have each folding backrest and ability to slide forward or backward as we wish.

In the 307 that I own there is one more particularity that the 5008 does not have: the seats can be removed, that is, they can be removed from the car, but in this case there is an explanation and there are 5 holes for 3 seats. In the Peugeot 5008, as the 5 seats are already standard, it makes no sense to be able to move them.

Another aspect that we liked is the absence of irregularities in the floor of the second row. It is completely flat and this gives more space for the legs of all occupants (The one who sits in the middle does not have to go almost squatting or have to open the legs to put them on each side of the typical central axis) and the possibility of walking from one side to the other without tripping or jumping.

Security

In the EuroNcap test he has obtained 5 stars, which are broken down into a 89% adult safety, a score of one 79% for the safety of children, 37% for the safety of the pedestrians, in case of being hit by this car and 97% for the safety elements available to the vehicle (ESP, belt notices, speed control ...).

Has 6 airbags: the two stringent stringers, two lateral ones for the front seats and two more curtain, which protect the head in case of lateral impact and that go from the first to the second row, being optional the one that also protects the third row.

At the level of support of children and babies has an advantage over other cars. By having 3 independent center seats, All of them with Isofix, they can go 3 seats with their 3 corresponding children. Come on, which is intended for large families, no doubt.

Space in the Peugeot 5008

There is not much to say. The Peugeot 5008 is a tall and wide car like all minivans. The seven occupants can be very comfortable, although if the rear seats are used the trunk is tiny.

If these places are not used (most times, I would say), the trunk is wonderful. It is completely flat and there is a space between 679 and 823 liters. The seats in the second row can also be folded up to the same height as the trunk, getting a much larger space equally flat.

As for corners and little holes, the glove compartment in the co-pilot is quite small (normal considering that it is a minivan and that the engine is usually tilted), there are four-door glove boxes and on the feet of the side seats of the second row there are two gaps with a lid that are accessed by lifting the carpet, quite aided.

Comfort

After all said the truth is that it is quite clear that the car is comfortable and comfortable.

The seats, being modular, folding, folding, etc., are somewhat thinner than those usually found in the seats of regular cars (I mean non-minivan), however I have not found anything uncomfortable or that I It has made you think that you can tell too much difference.

The space for all passengers is more than correct, except in the third row, which as we have said is designed more for children than for adults.

The driver has all the controls at hand, close to his position and of course the position is high with respect to the ground and with respect to most vehicles. For those people who want to have traffic controlled, great. If you are one of those who prefer to drive near the ground, well, of course.

Conclusions about the Peugeot 5008

I already have a car very similar to this one, but if I didn't have it, no doubt It is one of the best options at minivan level. If it's pretty or ugly I don't enter. I like it, but there are people who see it horrifying.

It is large and spacious, so that many things fit, something that we value very much those who, like me, who have 5 siblings, have grown up with a family member of those of a lifetime, who was always full to the brim.

The trunk I say, a joy. You can always leave it flat, make the movement of seats you make, so it is really versatile (Swedish furniture store, tremble ...).
